Baritone Maximilian Krummen made his professional debut as Papageno in The Magic Flute at Theater Aachen.

 

From 2013 to 2015, he was a member of the International Opera Studio at the Berlin State Opera, where he worked with conductors including Daniel Barenboim, Christopher Moulds, and Sebastian Weigle.

 

Since 2017, he has been a member of the ensemble at Staatstheater Braunschweig, where he has made important role debuts including Don Giovanni, Eugene Onegin, Marcello, Figaro, Danilo, and Valentin. He has also appeared in productions of contemporary operas, including Kaija Saariaho’s Innocence, Péter Eötvös’ Angels in America, Christian Jost’s Dichterliebe.Recomposed, and Toshio Hosokawa’s Hanjo.

 

Guest engagements have taken him to the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Hamburg State Opera, Bonn Opera, and Volkstheater Rostock, where he appeared as Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro. He made his debut at the Bregenz Festival as Guglielmo in Così fan tutte and returned in 2024 and 2025 as Kilian in Der Freischütz in Philipp Stölzl’s acclaimed production.

 

As a versatile concert and Lied singer, he has performed at the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, the Tonhalle Zürich, and at festivals including Heidelberger Frühling, Festival de Wiltz, and the Schiermonnikoog Festival. He has appeared with the Staatskapelle Berlin, the Aachen Symphony Orchestra, the Hamburger Symphoniker, the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra (USA), and the Staatsorchester Braunschweig. Under the baton of Srba Dinić, he performed Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen in 2021 and Brahms’ Vier ernste Gesänge in 2024.

 

He studied with Dieter Schweikard and Lioba Braun in Cologne and has participated in masterclasses with Thomas Hampson, Brigitte Fassbaender, and Johannes Martin Kränzle. He was awarded scholarships by the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes) and the Lied Academy of the Heidelberger Frühling Festival.
